Berkshire General Surgeons, highly trained, specialist surgeons operating
out of Spire Dunedin and Berkshire Independent Hospitals in Reading, providing state of the art treatment and
care for all routine and complex general and colorectal surgery problems.

Areas of special interest include minimally invasive (keyhole) surgical procedures for benign and malignant colorectal conditions. Together with a modern Enhanced Recovery Programme, this can lead to reduced post-operative pain and much shorter stays in hospital with a rapid return to full activities. Keyhole procedures are available are for hernias, gall bladder (cholecystectomy), appendix, colon or rectal cancer, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis)

The surgeons are experienced endoscopists and use state of the art equipment for colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and OGD (endoscopy).

A further specialist area is proctology (conditions of the lower bowel and anus) and lead the way in the modern management of haemorrhoids, offering the HALO procedure (Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation Operation) and it’s variants (DGHAL, HAL-RAR, and the most recent advance – the HALO Trilogy™)
